In June, 1989, Omar al-Bashir assumed office as President of Sudan after he led the military coup that ousted the democratically-elected government at the time.
As we are getting closer to this sad anniversary, Waging Peace is organizing an All Sudan Demo on Saturday, 30th June 2018 to mark 29 years since President Omar al-Bashir assumed office after a military coup.
We are uniting against poor governance in Sudan. We will be assembling outside of the Embassy of Sudan, London at 3 Cleveland Row, St. James, London SW1A 1DD at 13:00. The march will then begin to move down to 10 Downing St, Westminster, London SW1A 2AA at 14:30, aiming to arrive at 15:30. Outside of 10 Downing Street, there will be speakers and petitions at 15:45 with the dispersal of the demo at 17:00.
On this occasion, Eric Reeve tweeted a report by Radio Dabanga about the current situation in Sudan…
For 29 years, since June 1989, the National Islamic Front/National Congress Party regime has re-made Sudanese political power in its own ghastly image, and fully controls and empowers local governance. The results are often brutally destructive, as in this example from El Gedaref pic.twitter.com/UMrStaOYbs

There is definitely nothing to celebrate after almost 30 years, but we must stay mobilized to support the people living in all the regions of Sudan!
