There are many great Jazz music festivals around the world, among them is the Port-au-Prince International Jazz Festival. The non-profit organization Haiti Jazz Foundation was founded in March 2007 by composer, singer and percussionist Joel Widmaier, they work all the year to preserve Haiti’s musical heritage, and each year they host the jazz event in Port-au-Prince.
The organization promotes music activities around the country and during the festival, guest musicians are invited to share their experience to local Haitian artists through workshops and masterclass. Famous international and local musicians will attend the event like Kenny Garrett (USA), Reginald Policard (Haiti), Erik Truffaz Quartet (France / Switzerland), Rutshelle Guillaume (Haiti), Marialy Pacheco & Joo Kraus (Germany), JohnBern Thomas (Haiti), Javier Colina/Josemi Carmona & Bandolero (Spain), Strings (Haiti), Nicolas Vera Trio (Chile)… And many others.
Eight years after Haiti was devastated by a magnitude-seven earthquake, the PAPJazz contributes to rebuild the image of the country as a tourism destination. And the Haiti Jazz Foundation’s incredible work is now recognized by many jazz lovers as an unmissable jazz festival!
